“God First in Ending a Business”
By Guest Author, Katherine Gallagher, CEO of GoStrategic
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart;
yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. —Ecclesiastes 3:11
Seasons and cycles are inherent in God’s design for creation, including how we live and how we work. As businesspeople, we must partner with the Lord to discover and prepare for both our current season and the seasons to come. Starting a business is rarely done with the intention of closing it down, as most of us are seeking longevity in our businesses. But even in the case of successful businesses, there are sometimes necessary endings!
First and foremost, we must focus on building our businesses according to God’s design. This means, not only inviting Him into what we are doing, but allowing Him to fully direct it. We must constantly seek Him for direction, run the business according to biblical principles, and be open to any adjustments He has for us.
We must also consider if we are positioned to hear the Holy Spirit or if we are too busy, tired, or resistant to truly hear His will. Do you only want Him to bless the things you have chosen, or are you genuinely pursuing alignment with God’s plan—even if it is different from your own ideas? The Proverbs remind us that wisdom and insight come from the Lord.
For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. —Proverbs 2:6
True success is being obedient to God and the plans He has for us. Are you experiencing success through hearing God’s word for you in season? Fruit always tastes best in season! When we strive to create or sustain something out of season, it can cause strife and divert us from the work God has assigned us to do. When a season in business comes to an end, we must trust that He will have a new beginning for us if we walk in faith and obey Him. And that is….
THE BOTTOM LINE.
PRAYER: “Lord help me to be in season with my business and guide me to see the plans You have for me in all attributes of my work.”
